Get Away in May!

Girls weekend away! It's our annual party weekend titled "Get Away in May"! Remember it's just for the girls. (Don't forget Mom's, you deserve it!)

See you at the cabin, Friday at five! Don't forget your coat and your sun block!

First and foremost we arrange for a meeting place. This is almost always our girlfriends' parents cabin. It's big, it's on a lake, and best of all it's free! Friday at five is the time it starts but many don't arrive until later, as with most parties.

After the place is arranged, then we get a final headcount on who will be there. This has to be done a few days prior to the affair, because this determines the food selection for the party! Depending on the amount of girls, we split up the meals; one for Friday night, three for Saturday, and one for Sunday. If there are enough women attending then there will be two people to a meal. If you are expected to plan a meal, you bring the food and prepare it, or split that with your meal partner. Many ladies like to prepare a matching beverage to go along with their meal. For example, if you plan a Mexican dish, then you might make margaritas! As far as beverages and snacks, it's generally a free for all, bring what you like! There is always an abundance of beverages, from milk to tequila shots!

Sleeping arrangements are usually based on a first come first serve. It you get to the party late, you are a couch surfer. If you get there early enough you get a room and a bed. If you can't make it early enough to get a room, then perhaps you can win yourself a bed in a bet, like jumping in to the near freezing lake, after a few drinks of course!

The entertainment is always different. This can be as mellow as a movie (usually reserved for Saturday afternoons) or a board game. Sometimes it's as silly as charades, or a campfire with scary stories. What I really enjoy is singing to the greatest hits of the 80's. Clearly anyone jumping in to the cold lake is the best entertainment of all!

Since most parties usually only last one evening, or one afternoon, in this two day party, we spend a lot of our down time, sleeping, walking, writing, reading and of course talking! And when weather permits, we spend a lot of it near, in or around the lake. There is also a little rowboat that we have taken out. Unfortunately this is not always such fun, as none of us are expert rowers, and many a time we wind up spending the whole ride, trying to get back to shore.

What is the attire for this weekend get away? Whatever you want! Generally its' jeans and hoodies, however sweats can be the perfect blend of casual and comfy. Don't forget your slippers, a pair of sneakers and flip-flops for a warm day. And don't worry about makeup, it's your party right?

Don't forget, hats and coats may be needed for the camp fire, and swimsuits for the lake are optional!

See you there!

My friends and I used to have these May parties but we called them mother's weekend, same idea, same fun. A weekend away with friends and no kids can be a very crazy and enjoyable time.
